On February 3, 2006, Rep. Rocky Adkins and the
Kentucky House honored Ernest E. West in recognition of the service he
rendered as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.
That extraordinary service resulted in his receiving the Medal of Honor,
the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force that can
be bestowed upon an individual serving in the United States Armed Forces.
West, a resident of Greenup County, holds the distinction of being one
of only sixteen recipients of the Medal of Honor during the Korean War
and one of only two recipients living in Kentucky.
