Rep. Adkins Honored At Annual March of Dimes Dinner
On October 25, 2007, the March of Dimes Goldenrod Division honored Majority Leader Rocky Adkins at their annual Testimonial Dinner and Auction. The event was held at the El Hasa Shrine in Ashland.
"The March of Dimes' mission is to make a better future for babies, and we are blessed to have many wonderful people in the Ashland area who support our work, " said Susan Daniels, March of Dimes Goldenrod Division Director. "Every year we spotlight one of these special people, and we're delighted that our 2007 honoree is House Majority Floor Leader Rocky Adkins."
Several people close to Rep. Adkins spoke about his contributions to the community and the Commonwealth at the event including former Gov. Paul Patton and Wayne Martin, former Morehead State University head basketball coach, where Rep. Adkins played in his collegiate career.
"I am overwhelmed by this honor and the opportunity to help Ashland area babies live healthy lives," said Rep. Adkins. "Seeing all of my old friends, from coaches to school friends, community and religious leaders, business men and families from across Eastern Kentucky here on my behalf is very humbling."
More than $40,000 was raised from the silent auction items that included restaurant and store gift certificates, jewelry, gift baskets, artwork, University of Kentucky and University of Louisville memorabilia, and a diamond valued at $2,400.
A volunteer committee, made up of community leaders in a three-county area, coordinated the dinner and auction.
A crowd of 400 guests filled the El Hasa Shrine including members of Rep. Adkins' immediate and extended family.
