 You will remember that back in October 1973, OPEC embargoed their oil to countries that supported Israel during the Arab-Israeli War, cutting into the supply of oil and elevating prices to levels previously thought impossible. People experienced long lines for gasoline, brown-outs, and shortages of natural gas nationwide. Schools and offices in the U.S. often closed down to save on heating oil and natural gas, and factories cut production and laid off workers.
